Do you have an "underlayment" or a pad under your rug?
Have you wondered if you need one?
Maybe you do and maybe you don't. Most times you do. For a lot of reasons.
1. Pads can prevent slip and fall accidents. Rugs are VERY slippery on hardwood floors. Only children are amused by falling down. For the rest of us it can be very serious.
2. Pads can help keep your rugs in place. Any rug will move over time but a proper pad can stop the annoying and daily hassle of having to adjust them.
3. Pads can cushion the shock of heavy traffic, protect the floor under the rug, and extend the life and appearance of your rug.
4. Every situation is different. Get some advice.
Basically there are 3 kinds of underlayments (pads) most people are familiar with.
Mesh - The kind you see at the Mega Mart stores. They look like, well, mesh! Brown rubber things. They can get pricey. You may be able to use them effectively but in most cases there is no reason to buy one the size of the entire rug. Especially for larger rugs.
Foam - Similar to what you find under your wall to wall carpet. A high density, low profile rebonded foam pad can give you incredible pleasure for your family room rug.
Rubber/Felt - Known by many trade names including Durahold@ this is a rubber backed product with a corrugated felt top. These pads are great for keeping loose or thin rugs in place.
Depending on your application, any one of these may be right for you.
Don't waste your money on an inappropriate pad!!!
